A Guide to Packing for a Wellness Retreat

Hello friends and fellow travelers! Summer Meddock here, ready to share some helpful ideas on how to pack for that wellness retreat you’ve been dreaming about. I’ve packed a lot of luggage, duffel bags, carry-ons, etc. (but never enough, LOL). As someone who has experienced of variety of travel destinations and types of travel, I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to pack for any type vacation. You always run the risk of underpacking—or if you're like me, and plan each day’s outfit, your mood could change, and you have to switch gears and mix it up! Whether you're jetting off to a white-sand beach, a bustling city, or a tranquil countryside retreat, packing smart is the key to simplifying each moment of your vacation.

My personal packing mantra is about blending style, comfort, and practicality. So, let’s dive into my practical guide about packing for a wellness retreat, ensuring you’re prepared to give time to the relaxation, redefection and unexpected opportunities your trip has to offer you.

1. Versatile Outfits

When it comes to wellness travel, you’ll want to strike a balance between style and comfort. Think about your outfits as one complete look, and also, its ability to mix & match the pieces. If your wellness destination is a warm one, pack lightweight cotton tops, comfortable sports bras, and biker style shorts or tennis style shorts for days that consist of body work, yoga, or hiking. Flowy pieces, like kaftans and linen blend pants are great for mediation mornings, walks on the beach and laid-back meals. These pieces can also be dressed up if the occasion presents itself.

  • Kaftans + Linen Blend Pants: Perfect for lounging and casual meals. Add a statement necklace or pair of heeled sandals to dress up the look. These linen style pants from Gap are SO comfy!

  • Mix-and-Match Separates: Bring interchangeable two-piece sets that can be mixed and matched if the mood strikes.  You can pair a cotton top with linen blend pants or use it to add a layer for sun protection during hikes or afternoon yoga flows on the beach. Think cotton shirts, sports bras, comfortable shorts, and athletic shorts. Leave the denim at home!

  • Rompers: If all else fails and your stumped, just pack a bunch of rompers and cotton tanks! You can’t go wrong! Maybe add in a couple of trendy sandals that give a touch of your personal style! If your headed to a place with slighty cooler weather, this Free People sweater romper is a great addition!

Pro Tip: Choose a color palette that compliments each piece, making it easier to mix and match. I gravitate to earth tones and usually have one or two pops of color to add visual interest and personal style!

2. Footwear for Every Occasion

Footwear can make or break your travel wardrobe. Here’s what to include:

  • Sandals for Comfort: The type that can get drenched in salt water and still survive.

  • Festive Flats: Comfortable but complement your personal style.

  • Heeled Sandal: Your favorite neutral pair for an experiential dinner.

  • Sneakers: A must have, for adventurous activities or a lot of walking.

Pro Tip: Opt for neutral colors that can pair with multiple outfits to save space in your luggage.

3. Intentional Accessories & Gear

During a wellness trip or retreat, make space to sit in quiet and reflect, pray and journal. These are items that help to remind me of the intentions I’ve set for my trip:

  • Lightweight Journal: Write it ALL down on paper. This releases the brains need to contain and hold so many thoughts, feelings and ideas.

  • Book or Travel Size Bible: Bring something that inspires you to stay in step with your intentions; whether it is growing closer to Jesus and your faith, or opening more doors of creativity, be sure to bring a book that helps guide you to these places.

  • Noise Canceling Ear Buds: Depending on the location and business of the retreat, having a tool to cancel out surrounding noise and activity helps to relax the brains desire to multi-task. Download some new podcast episodes and use your ear buds on the plane to catch up.

  • Gua Sha, Dry Brush, Silk Eye Pillow, Essential Oil Rollers: Elevate your daily experience by setting a new pace and routine for your body care and sleep routines. Try one of these Osea Sets to simplify your planning and packing - Golden Glow or Glow & Go

Pro Tip: Use small pouches to organize your small accessories and products.

4. Skincare and Beauty Essentials

Indulge your skin with a luxurious body oil and enjoy a slower process of pampering, to keep your skin glowing and rejuvenated:

  • Sunscreen: A clean SPF formula is a must. For my face, I prefer a tinted 30 SPF and 30+ SPF for my body.

  • Moisturizer: I like to have my entire routine, which includes a Rose Geranium Oil, antioxidant lotion, eye treatment and nighttime balm. This keeps my skin glowing and super hydrated!

  • Travel-Sized Beauty Products: Pack your favorite makeup and skincare items in travel-sized containers or buy the travel version from that brand.

  • Beach Hair Essentials: Leave-in conditioner, a good brush, a few hair clips and soft scrunchies or tie-backs. I often skip on blow-drying and simply roll my hair into a low bun. This is my favorite “towel scrunchy” that I use after every shower!

Pro Tip: Pack a small first-aid kit with essentials like band-aids, pain relievers, and any personal medications and use a toiletry bag that protects your products and is easy to travel with.

Final Thoughts

Packing for a wellness retreat is about combining outfit simplicity with regimens to keep your mind and body healthy. By packing products and accessories to help elevate and encourage total relaxation and self-care, you are sure to slip away into the quiet and peaceful time your heart is longing for.
